Celebrating Halloween In Your New Neighbourhood. Are you the new family on the street and want to get to know your neighbours a bit better? We all know that moving house can be a lonely time, but it can be especially difficult for children who might find breaking into established social groups an intimidating prospect. Halloween is a sociable time of year and the perfect opportunity to interact with your neighbours, so here are some ways in which you can lend a hand and help your children to settle in and celebrate Halloween in a new neighbourhood.

1. Throw A Halloween Party

Why not throw a Halloween party for the kids in your neighbourhood or community? Have your children make some invitations and hand deliver them around the neighbourhood. Let them help decorate the house for the party so they feel involved. You could also let them lend a hand in baking some tasty treats for the occassion. This would be a great excuse for both you and your children to get to know the neighbours and the people in your community.

2. Trick or Treating

However, if you are not keen on the idea of hosting a party then why not take your kids trick or treating around the neighbourhood (or guising as it is called here in Scotland). As you are new to the neighbourhood we suggest that you go along with your children in order to make sure they stay safe. It is also good etiquette that your kids are prepared to deliver a joke or sing a song as you cannot expect to get a sweet for just dressing up! It is also probably a good idea to have someone stay at home to deliver sweets to the fellow guisers.

Here are some jokes that you can print out and take along with you:
