How to improve your home. No plans this bank holiday weekend? Well there is no better time than a three-day weekend to roll up your sleeves and tackle those home improvement tasks you have been promising yourself you are going to do. Need some inspiration or ideas of where to start? Well, look no further.

1. Start off with a spring clean

Did you open up the garage to find old bikes the kids have outgrown, or exercise equipment you promised to use but didn’t? In which case, a spring bank holiday weekend is the perfect time to have a clear out. If you are in need of a little extra space, then why not put your belongings through this declutter flowchart to help you decide what stays and what goes? It is also a good thing to do every six months or so, as it gives you a fresh perspective and can make you feel better about your home.

2. Make sure your home is safe

Great, now your house is clutter-free and looks so much better for it. But is your home safe and secure? This is one of the most important things to consider for your home and your family. So, have you ever stopped to think about the electrical safety of your home for your little ones? Have you checked your carbon monoxide levels lately? Do all your windows and doors lock properly? These are just a handful of the things you should be doing, so, to make sure you have everything covered, check out two of our previous posts on this topic: ‘Eight ways to secure your family in your new home’ and ‘Tips to make sure your new home is safe for your children’.

3. Paint your children’s bedroom

Now that your house is clean and safe, why not give your children the bedroom they have always dreamed of? Whether you experiment with bright and bold colours or paint a mural on the wall, you can create a bedroom that your kids will be proud to show off to their friends. Don’t forget to get them to help, and make their bedroom a place of creativity and fun. For some extra tips check out one of our previous posts.

4. Hang some artwork

Fed up with staring at the bare walls in your home? Why don’t you showcase your children’s talent and exhibit their artwork around the house? This will save you money as you won’t have to buy artwork, and your kids will feel proud to see their artwork hanging on the walls, not just on the fridge!

5. Build your kids a treehouse

What child has not always dreamed of having a treehouse in their back garden? While my dad always promised he would build me one, unfortunately he never got around to it. You may recall a previous post we put together called: ‘Treehouses you wish you could build for your kids’… So, if you promised your kids you would build them a treehouse, why not put this one together with them? After all, it is much easier than braving the back garden!
