So, if you are currently in the process of moving house and you’re not sure whether you’ve ticked all the necessary boxes, then this checklist is for you. First, let’s start by looking at what needs to be done.

Well, there’s no need to stress, as Removal Services Scotland has you covered! We’ve developed a handy checklist that helps you to organise your big move, making sure you do all the important jobs that often get overlooked in the process of moving house.

Firstly:

Contact Removal Services Scotland and invite them to quote for your removal
Arrange a visit of an estimator to discuss all aspects of your move
Confirm dates with your RSS mover
Sign and return your contract and pay the charges

Secondly:

Dispose of anything you don’t want and run down freezer contents
Notify all your creditors
Put garage/garden tools together and take down any light fittings
Cancel all rental agreements
Tell your doctor, dentist, optician and vet
Notify your bank/credit card companies and your telephone company
Advise TV license, car registration and passport offices
Arrange to re-route mail and cancel milk and newspapers
Plan where things will go in the new home
Arrange reminders to look after young children and pets on the moving day
Book mains services for disconnections

Thirdly:

Separate valuables & important documents for you to hand-carry on moving day
Find and label keys for your buyer
Collect children’s toys etc. for the journey
Put together a basic catering pack for the family at the new home, including kettle!
Send change of address cards to friends and relatives
