Summer is finally upon us and fingers crossed the weather will eventually start to warm up. Family days together outdoors are considered a desired way for families to spend their weekends. So do you live in Edinburgh and need some inspiration for fun outdoor activities you and your family can get involved in? Well look no further:
1. Have a picnic in the park
Edinburgh is the perfect city to have a fun family picnic, with its tons of parks and greenery your choices of where to have it are limitless. Top picks include Arthur’s Seat or The Meadows as there is a lot of green space available for you and your family to have hours of fun. Be sure to bring a kite, a football, equipment for rounders, bread to feed the ducks at the pond and make a day of it.
2. Pick your own strawberries
Generations of families year after year head to Craigie’s Farm to pick their own fruit. With strawberries being in peak season at the moment, it is a great oppourtunity for your kids to learn where food comes from. Once you have picked all the strawberries and raspberries your little ones can carry why not send them off to become a Nature Detective on the farm.
3. Visit the animals
If your kids love animals then there is no greater place to live than Edinburgh. With the likes of Blair Drummond Safari & Adventure Park, Edinburgh Zoo and Gorgie City Farm on your doorstep you are spoilt for choice.
4. Sit on some over-sized chairs
If you haven’t been to Vogrie Country Park before then you really are missing out. Situated just outside Edinburgh there are tons of things to keep the kids occupied. They have over-sized chairs and bikes to make your little ones feel like one of The Borrowers, not to mentioned nature trails and an adventure park.
5. Play a round of adventure golf
Fancy some silly fun with the kids? Then a visit to Adventure Golf Island is a must. Putt your way through waterfalls, fountains, palm trees, tiki huts and even a pirate ship.
6. Take a family bike ride
There is nothing better than a family bike ride on a sunny day. Edinburgh is home to many family friendly cycle paths which can be found on the Edinburgh Innertube Map, our particular favourite is the Water of Leith.
7. Sketch some flowers
What kid doesn’t love to draw and flowers are the perfect subject. This time of year the Royal Botanic Garden is at its most colourful and beautiful. They also host lots of other events perfect for family fun.
